What is a self-limiting belief? Any belief that is not helping you to grow in life, we can call it a self-limiting belief. These beliefs might be affecting your personal life, financial life, and family life and the more interesting is you might not be aware of it.
Belief Scams in our Life!
When it comes to money, we are surrounded by so many not-so-financially capable people. We are scripted by friends, parents, teachers, government, schools, banks, corporate, etc. for thinking in a decided manner. How our parents /close relatives set perceptions in our minds about money, has a long-lasting impact on us.
What is your financial limit? Why limit, can you double or triple it? Have you ever dreamed of being rich beyond your current limit, which is really in your mind?
A small child asks so many questions and has so many dreams, but slowly when they grow and start going to school things start changing. When they passed out 10th /12th they generally stop asking such questions and have very limited dreams. Something peculiar thing happens in school with the support of teachers, friends, parents, media, news, government, etc.
“If you accept a limiting belief, then it will become a truth for you”-Louise L.
We stop living our lives openly and seek Security at each and every stage in life. That is true for our financial life aspect also.
I came across in book titled UnScripted by MJ DeMarco; The Belief Scams (Lies we believe). How these belief scams affect various aspects of our life and held true like the ancient proverb “three men make a tiger”.
Belief#1: the shortcut scam; “ordinary doesn’t compel extraordinary” (99 % of people believe in events and only 1 % in process).
Belief#2: the special scam; “I am not good at that” (99 % operate with fixed mindset and only 1 % with growth mindset)
Belief#3: the consumption scam; how much time did that cost? (99 % want to be the consumer side only 1 % want to be producer)
Belief#4: the money scam; I can get rich by wanting to get rich. (99 % wish to be rich, only 1 % believe in value addition)
Belief#5: the poverty scam: I am poor because you are rich (99% operate with selfish mode, only 1 % operate with selfless mode)
Belief#6: luck scam: you don’t play, you don’t win (99% believe in luck, 1% believe in probability)
Belief#7: the frugality scam: Live poor, die rich (99% want to be defence, only 1% want to be offence)
Belief#8: the compound interest scam: Wall Street ain’t make ya rich (99% believe power of compound interest in creating wealth, 1 % believe in creating additional income sources)
Way to come out from these self-limiting beliefs:
Once you are aware of the self-limiting beliefs about money, the next step is to come out of it. There are several ways to come out of such false beliefs.
Start observing your environment, like people say that money doesn’t grow on tree! Look closely that there are so many plants available all around us.
People are owning rental properties, which in turn give money to the owner continuously. Can we not call it a money tree? Some other people have done business set-up, which is run by their team and now they are earning a good amount of money from this. Don’t you think that this is working as a money tree!
Our society is full of such examples and has tons of money trees.
The problem is not in money, but the meaning we associate with money. The love of money, not money, is the root of all kinds of evil. So change your self-limiting beliefs about money.
We need to take control of something, which seems uncontrollable; our environment. If we live in an environment that is full of broke people, a high level of chance is for us to remain broke.
Fame or physical talent is not a prerequisite to wealth. Almost every day REAL success stories about normal human beings are getting published in newspapers and magazines. You can find several such examples around yourself, in your society, in your friend circle, in your relatives, etc. These persons were below normal or normal at one point in time but now they are very successful financially. Just have a close watch on them, they have changed their thought process, and their self-limiting belief to come out from their not-so-good condition.
Financial discipline is blind to income!! Whether you are earning 2 million or 20K. We many a time increase our earnings but at the same time our expenditure also increases, so end result is our life remain in struggle. We are just a few months away from being broke i.e. we need to borrow either from a friend or relative or a bank to survive.
The attraction of positive /negative thoughts: on which to focus? The one who lives in your mind expands. If all the time we thought about our financial problems, they will keep coming. So the right strategy is to shift our focus from scarcity to abundance. If our thought is filled with abundance then surely things are going to change in the coming time.
Admire rich/wealthy people, if you want to be! If we see each rich person as a Bad Guy, then we may remain broke for a long time as we are feeding contradictory thoughts to our subconscious mind, which controls 90 % of our life. One thought is that you want to be rich and another thought is that you are not happy seeing other rich people. Here mind confuses and leads you nowhere, you remain in the same financial condition for a long time even some time for a complete life. Many a time people wonder about what they did their whole time for themselves and for their children. They leave their children at the same juncture where they had started even after one complete generation gap.
Money makes you more what you already are (greed/strong/help etc.). Money does not make you bad unless you are already! So better if you change your self-limiting beliefs.
Without a target of money amount & end dates nothing moves. So I would say, have a positive thought process about money if you want to improve your financial life and do your Karma to attain your financial goal. Once things sink into your subconscious mind then miracles happen!
