Written goals can give you all those things, which you wish to achieve in your life. To understand this let me share with you the following analogies.
#1 Analogy: Purchase List
Why do we go to market? It’s obvious that we want to purchase certain things. We many a time make a list of things, which need to purchase. Why do we do that? Because we do not want to miss anything.
For doing shopping, we have are written list & that small list ensure that we didn’t miss anything. If while doing shopping, we didn’t get few things, we work out the ways to purchase those things from another area. It means that we ensure all those things in our basket, which are there on the list. We know the importance of each and every item in that list, that’s why we do not want to miss any.
Now imagine if you go shopping without a list of items; chances are, you may miss few things. Then what is the result, you compromise on those things, or some of your work may remain pending at home or you may have to again go to the market to purchase those things.
#2 Analogy: Vision/Mission Statements
Even one more analogy can be correlated with the organization. Many successful organizations have VISION/MISSION statements. So many people spend high-quality time making these statements. These statements reflect the values, purpose, goals of these organizations.
These statements keep the organization on right track and avoid drifting in the wrong direction. Each employee in the organization is somewhere having these statements or some keywords of these statements in their mind while performing tasks there. Whenever they drift from goal, they return back to the track after thinking about that vision/mission statement.
What About Our Life’s Goals!
Now, you think above analogies from life’s perspective. Our life is moving constantly from one phase to another. We want to achieve different things during these different phases.
What about our life’s goal, all those things which we want to achieve in our life. Only a few people have written goals in life. They control their life from drifting as per surrounding circumstances.
Research has shown that individuals with written goals achieved approximately 50% more of their goals than those without written goals (A study conducted by Gail Matthews, Ph.D., at the Dominican University).
Written goals ensure that you identify achievements that will ultimately prove most meaningful to you. These written goals save time, help measure progress, produce motivation, reduce conflict, form a basis for action & stimulate visualization.
Impact of Beliefs on Goals
Your beliefs and conditioning play a major role in goal achievement. Negative beliefs and restrictive conditioning are two of the main reasons why people fail to achieve their biggest goals in life. You have within you, right now, deep-seated beliefs about your current abilities, and what you can and cannot achieve. It is this conditioning that is your true enemy because it stops you from achieving the more important goals in your life.
As Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Be the change that you wish to see in the world”.
No matter what you want to change or achieve in your own life right now, you can do so only when you change what’s inside you. You can become bitter, resentful and thereby experience even more suffering, or you can make a change that will powerfully touch every area of your life.
A single positive, powerful, inner change is a bit like pulling the corner of a spider’s web. When you pull the corner of the web, the entire web of your life changes shape too. In other words, change just one aspect of your life, and your whole life changes as a result!
Life! Fun or Pain
Basically, life can be thrilling, fun, and exciting, or it can be boring, challenging, and full of pain.
Why is it that good things always seem to happen to some people, while others get left far behind? Many a time you feel trapped by circumstances that appear to be beyond your control, or if everything you try just doesn’t seem to work out. Life can be hard, but it doesn’t have to be like that. You really can change what happens to you & transform your life. You can achieve what you want for, and you can become deeply happy and truly fulfilled – providing you do the right things and in the right way.
You are what you think, feel, and do. Your beliefs, dominant thoughts, emotions, and actions create the circumstances of your life. And when you change your beliefs, dominant thoughts and emotions, and start taking the right actions, your environment will reflect those changes and your circumstances can improve dramatically. This is the true secret to long-term success and happiness – if you want to change your circumstances, you must first make a change within yourself.
Way Ahead
Now it’s time to set goals for your life. You can use the below steps to start the process as
# Analyse various dimension of you current life like Personal, Financial, Professional, Family, Social, etc.
# Now decide what you want to achieve in Your Selected Areas and write it down
# Concise your list to mainly three, supplemented by a few more if you wish to keep
# Convert these goals into written affirmations, which you can see and visualize frequently every day.
# Start taking action to achieve these goals keeping positive faith in yourself
# Monitor your progress with respect to timeline
# If you drift in the wrong direction, correct it

Once you set written goals for yourself, the Infinite intelligence of your subconscious mind will support you in this journey. Whenever you are stuck in between, ask solution to your subconscious mind as it has a solution to each problem & an answer to each question in the universe.
Subconscious mind will show you the ways to achieve your goals, but the most important point is, you need to initiate the process by taking action. Nothing move in life without action!
Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible. – Anthony Robbins
